Nau mai haere mai ki te Ruma 12!

Kia ora whanau!

Nau mai, haere mai, ki te Ruma 12! I hope you have had a wonderful relaxing break and you are excited to get underway with our learning in 2018. There has been a lot of changes over the summer at our kura and a lot more to come over the year.

A bit about me
This is my fourth year teaching at Bishopdale School and my second year teaching Year 3 and 4. I am married to Allen and we have two children, Lachy (12) and Brooke (10) and this year Allen's daughter, Debbie, has moved to Christchurch to begin a degree in Political Science (whatever that is!) so she is living with us too.

I am interested in Kapa Haka and Te Reo Maori and I am passionate about ICT. I want to use it as much as I can to enhance the teaching and learning happening in Room 12. I plan to blog all the happenings in our space each week, including upcoming events. Please make sure you check the blog out as much as you can. It can be accessed from the school website.

Ako Online
I have a website you can assess from our blog page to view our learning slides each week for reading and maths.

School App
Download the school app to keep up with the school wide happenings and announcements.

Seesaw
This year Room 12 will be using this site to display and blog about our work. Please see the Seesaw information sheet about how to access this site.

Chapter Chat
I will be reading a shared novel called 'Terrible Two' to the class. In week 3 there will be tasks set for the children to complete. On Fridays between 10 and 10:45 they will use the class twitter account to share their work and comment on other children's work from around the country. They will not have their own Twitter account and we will be learning about Twitter and digital citizenship before we start.

Howework
The children will bring home a book to read from week 3. Please listen to them read each night (Monday - Thursday) and sign their reading log. Please ensure your child returns their book to school the following day.

The will also bring home spelling words to learn each week from week 3. Please help them to learn their words, play games like hangman to keep it interesting.

If you have access to the internet then they can also work on their Online classroom work if they wish.

Stationery
Thank you to those who have paid already for stationery. The total to pay is $16 this includes all your child's stationery costs. This can be paid by cash or internet banking, please see Penny in the office to help with this.

CARE
Our school values are Care Achieve Responsibility and Enthusiasm. These are taught in a three week rotation and in the same way as other curriculum areas. Displaying CARE values earns the students a card and at the end of each day they go in a lucky dip draw. The cards are then collated and when they earn enough they will be rewarded in assembly. The cards also go into a bucket for a wheel spinner draw.

Please don't hesitate to come and see me if you have anything you would like to discuss. You can catch me before school or after school or put a note in your child's note book. We have meetings every Tuesday and Wednesday after school and one on Friday before school. Any other day I am available at these times. Please call the office to make an appointment.

Thank you for all your support and input into your child's learning.
